Achilles tendon rupture

A partial or complete tear of the tendon just above the heel. The injury makes it hard to raise the foot or walk properly.
To reduce the chances of Achilles (uh-KILL-eez) tendon issues, stretch and strengthen calf muscles, vary the type of exercise, try not to run on hard or slippery surfaces, and increase training intensity slowly.
See a healthcare professional immediately if:
- A pop or snap sound or feeling occurs in the heel.
- Walking after injury is not possible.
